Fishermans Bay is a family owned farm known for its spectacular coastal setting and outstanding homestead gardens. The farm has dedicated 35 % of its land to restoring forest. The owners have committed to long term sustainable land management by covenanting their property under the PFSI, the QE II National Trust and Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust. The forest is now a permanently protected carbon sink.
The growth of the forest results in removal of atmospheric CO2 while promoting the regeneration of native trees as well as planting introduced species.
The income from the sale of carbon credits directly contributes to support conservation activities , which include the protection and management of the yellow eyed penguin sanctuary, pest and weed control, reserve boundary fencing, and ensuring safe access by maintaining tracks. The owners also support scientific conservation work within the property undertaken by the Department of Conservation (DOC).
